Why Serendipitous Searches on the ‘net

… can be hazardous to one’s financial health

Found the following whilst running research for a future article:

For Sale: $195,000 (museum quality restoration)

For Sale: $79,000 (includes spare wings and other gear)

OK, a little closer to reality:

For Sale: Cessna 310 ($75,000)

But, hmmm, this one is closer to what YHS first started flying in — and at $35.4K it’s less than a Shelby GT ...

Funny how those mental gears start turning…

Oh, and hey, Lex, this one can be yours for a mere $2.5M (no, the fast one in the foreground)

  1. Don’t you know that the descriptions of these beautiful aircraft are tempting enough without adding photographs? 😥 😥

Seriously, they certainly are tempting. I would, if possible, purchase all but the one in the second photo. It’s a little less elegant, to these untrained eyes. Now…which one are you planning on purchasing? May I guess that it would be the one in the third frame? I’m going to have to be strong if you’re going to tempt we readers like this in the future, sir. 😉

P.S. The wee faces won out tonight. My apologies. 😳

  2. Expensive, but the Stoof and the BEARCAT can be flown about the country, getting paid to do airshows and rides (S-2)….an excuse: “Dear, I have the jacket and I’ll be heading for Oshkosh after work…see you in two weeks!”

The civilian craft don’t seem to get you paid…you just pay and pay for those.

  3. Yeah, but… $1500-$2K per flight hour (S2F) vs. $200/hr (C-310) or $70 makes it relatively easier to sell an already (highly) skeptical finance minister…

  4. You can argue your way out of side trips like that….I was going for the “Perfect Rationale” (Starring Clooney)

  5. I just saw a TBM-3R in Olympia, WA while visiting the Romantic Intrest and her parents. I couldn’t get very close to it since they had it roped off ready to fly during an air show. It was awesome to hear that CW R-2600 Twin Cyclone fire off and see it fly around. It would be fun to have. Maybe you could con the CAF unit over in Richmond to buy off on it or maybe even the local Norfolk Naval Base to buy off on spending money on it to represent some flying history of the base.
