SJS---great summary, though I'm sure we will continue to agree to disagree. I am proud of having been a part of this dialogue, as your readers are articulate, concerned, and smart. Would that I had them all to work with! Keep in mind though, that I did have really smart people to work with, and that the strategy you see went through multiple, world-wide staffing processes. It isn't a bunch of guys sitting around the table...it is the now agreed upon direction the Sea Services will take--signed off very enthusiastically by the Chiefs of those Services.

I have included a few links above by way of signing off (and returning to my day job, as SJS says). The first two are reactions from outside the family--again, a group far more enthusiastic to the strategy than those within.

The third is a link to the Pentagon Channel. Click the link to "This Week in Washington" and you'll find a show aimed at a very general audience. At about 14 minutes, I get interviewed for a bit. 40 minutes of interview boiled down to about 5, but it isn't a bad bit of editing.

Great forum here, keep up the good work, everyone!
