One regret I had when I was in was being a "behind the scenes, below deck tech" and missing out on on deck flight ops. A second (minor) one was picking aviation electronics over intelligence (though that was no impediment to civilian opportunities.)

A couple of comments on the newsreel...I kept watching for the splash on that second launch. The sink rate (below the flight deck) said that sucker should be fishing not flying. I betcha he had to change his underwear after that launch.

The other comment I have would be to the seemingly short arrested landing. I wonder if the pilots had whiplash after a couple of those? The perspective of the filmographer was long but it appeared that the arrested length was really short. Did they scrap the airframes after those tests?

Anyway, thanks for the video. It was long before my career but really interesting to see how I got to be where I was when I was in.

A great book! Being 64 I grew up during those years and practically inhaled anything on military aviation of all branches I could get. Many of the photos were duplicated of mine that I have in the books, mags, etc., that I bought at the time, but some new also--along with a great deal of info that, obviously, wasn't in the public domain at the time. Tommy done good!
