Thanks for the reminder of this epic victory, fought under difficult and austere conditions, and also thanks for the hat-tip to the Army Air Corps and our Australian allies.  

My father was a bomber pilot with the 5th Air Force, and was involved in this operation.  He was awarded the Silver Star &quot;For gallantry in action over the Bismarck Sea, near Lae New Guinea, on March 3 1943.&quot;  (Sadly, I never knew about this, or other actions he was involved in, until after he passed in 1997.)  

Thanks again for helping keep this somewhat forgotten piece of history alive.  As the Aussies like to say:  &quot;Lest We Forget&quot;
