IMHO, Thailand is by the far the most liberal of SE Asian countries when it comes to the seedy side of things. Singapore is a beautiful and clean city, but it has more than its share of "night life." Geylang, "Four Floors," Tanjong Pagar, etc. PI isn't nearly as bad as Thailand, but it doesn't fall too far behind. In Thailand's case, one can argue that it boils down to good old fashion inequality of the sexes, mixed in with familial responsibilities that we've never even considered in the Western world, and topped off with a predominant Buddhist religion that lacks the type of "morality" that we in the Western world are so fond of. I'm not an expert, just my opinion. Hope you have a good time in Malaysia. Stay away from their Sailors or they'll talk you into eating Durian!
