Sometimes Moral Victories Aren’t Reflected in the Final Score

…but they can darn sure make halftime interesting…

Excerpt from the Madison Wisconsin Capital Times on the Citadel vs Wisconsin game results:

The Badgers returned seven starters from a defensive unit that was statistically one of the best in the nation last season. But in three games in 2007, UW has allowed an average of 21.7 points and 337 total yards per game.
Last week’s effort against The Citadel was particularly disconcerting because the Bulldogs, a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) (ed. as opposed to the contrived BCS…-SJS), moved the ball in big chunks against the Badgers.
The Citadel had three runs of 13 yards or more and seven pass plays of 16 yards or more. Those 10 plays accounted for 219 yards, an average of 21.9 per play. The Bulldogs’ other 61 plays accounted for a combined 158 yards, an average of 2.6 yards per play.
"We didn’t make them earn it," Bielema said of giving up the big play. "It wasn’t like they went down the field (with) three third-down conversions. We were putting them in a position to have big plays."

Go Dogs!
